first blog for this farm girl

Although it is late here in North Carolina, this country girl is wide awake... Well actually, I yawn as I say that! I am currently attending North Carolina State University & I am majoring in Agricultural Education, with a concentration in Animal Science. For those of you who may be a little confused, this means that I should hopefully be teaching high school agriculture upon graduation. I have a strong love for animals, & have been inspired to begin my own blog. This inspiration came from the NAAE blog site and also from Farming In The Shade. Since this is my first blog, why not start with a little bit of knowledge about myself? I am originally from North Carolina. As previously mentioned, I am a current student at North Carolina State University & have roughly 2 more years. I sometimes feel as if I am rushing through it; however, I am learning that the more I want to get through with school, the harder it is to stay focused. Confusing, I know. I have always had a love for animals, which I'm pretty sure came from growing up on a small cattle farm... We raised beef cattle (mainly Angus crosses), chickens, hogs, & horses. We also grew a number of crops, that seemed to rotate every year... As I got older, I realized they rotated for a reason :) I love agriculture & I love people. I have had a strong passion for teaching since I was a senior in high school. My love for teaching & people have led me to make several discoveries. I have been involved in FFA since I was a sophomore in high school, & have proudly served as Sentinel & Vice President. I have always wanted to make a difference in the lives of others, & teaching really allows for this. I work part-time at The Children's Home that is in the heart of Winston-Salem, NC, & get the opportunity to work with animals & kids. I am beginning to do presentations on how to shear sheep, how to show beef cattle, & work with therapy horses. I help with finding financial "aid" for the farm, as there is always something that needs fixing & let's face it, times are hard! Although I am young, I have quite a bit of knowledge in the previously mentioned areas. I look forward to this being a successful blog. Feel free to leave comments of things that you would like to see me write about & things that maybe you would like further information on. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, & I hope that you continue to read :)
